Assange has positive Covid-19 test in jail

(MENAFN) According to his wife Stella, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has tested positive for coronavirus and is currently being held in complete seclusion at Belmarsh Prison as he continues to seek extradition to the United States.

The lawyer, who wed Assange in March, told reporters that "HHe is now locked in his cell for 24 hours a day," adding that "The next few days will be crucial for his general health." According to her, Assange first became ill on Friday with a cough and fever and was treated with paracetamol before testing positive for the virus the next day.

The Australian citizen, who is at a high risk of contracting coronavirus owing to a chronic lung ailment he has had for more than ten years, sought in the early months of two years ago to be freed on bail. His appeal was turned down, though, and a United Kingdom judge decided earlier this year that he can be extradited to the United States to face accusations of hacking and espionage for leaking secret Pentagon data.
