(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) New York, September 25, 2022, SPA -- Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, signed a memorandum of USD 10 million financial contribution submitted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Friday, to address environmental and economic threats that may arise from the oil tanker FSO“Safer,” which is anchored off Yemen's Hodeida, with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Gressly, in New York City, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
The two sides also discussed the humanitarian and relief efforts in Yemen, as well as the means to confront the humanitarian, economic, and environmental threats to the 'Safer' oil tanker, and the necessary measures to neutralize its potential dangers.
Dr. Al Rabeeah explained that the Kingdom's contribution comes as an extension of its efforts to save the“Safer” tanker and to support international efforts to prevent any potential disasters that may result, as it contains more than one million barrels of oil and has not been maintained since 2015, stressing the importance of concerted international efforts to prevent any consequences of the impounded tanker, whose dire effects may be reflected not only on Yemen but on the whole world.
For his part, David Gressly thanked the Kingdom for its efforts and support for the stability and peace in Yemen and the whole world.
