Kremlin: Ukraine talks are required

(MENAFN) Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will be required in the future, but there are no indications that such a dialogue would start soon, according to Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov on Friday. He also stated that Kiev withdrew from the talks several months ago.

Peskov was questioned by reporters whether Moscow believes that interaction is justified under the current circumstances. The spokesman for President Vladimir Putin indicated that conversation is "of course required."

“And it is needed to achieve our goals. But, as we have already said, we do not see any prerequisites for the negotiation process,” he asserted.

Peskov also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already explained that “Ukraine left the negotiations several months ago.” The Russian leader, he elaborated, also offered the reminder that different Kiev officials had signaled that they “intend to solve their problems on the battlefield.”

“You know very well how our president reacted to this,” he claimed.

Putin announced a partial mobilization on Wednesday, in which 300,000 reservists will be called up to participate in the confrontation with Ukraine. The action occurred a day after the two Donbass republics and the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions resolved to hold referendums on whether to join Russia from September 23 to 27.
