Dubai launches robotics, automation effort to strengthen nation's economy


(MENAFN) As part of the emirate's transition to the future economy, Dubai has started a robotics and automation initiative to assist the development of the technologies.

The Dubai Robotics and Automation Program, introduced on Wednesday by sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, crown prince of Dubai, is going to support the advancement of robotics technology and the development of local talent, according to a tweet from the Dubai media Office.

The initiative, run by the Dubai Future Foundation, intends to increase the sector's contribution to the emirate's gross domestic product to 9 percent within ten years.

It focuses on five future areas of research and development, including production and manufacturing, health, logistics and transportation, tourism and customer services, and improving working conditions. It also comprises five key initiatives.

Based on the media office, the initiative will also supply 200,000 robots to boost production and efficiency in the service, industrial, and logistical sectors and help to improving the economy's competitiveness over the next ten years.
