HE the President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) Hamad bin Nasser al-Misnad met with a high-level delegation from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), currently visiting the country to review the Qatari experience in the fields of anti-corruption and digital government. This first-of-its-kind visit aims at strengthening the distinguished relations between the two countries in various fields and exchanging experiences to enhance transparency and integrity.
During the meeting, they reviewed the efforts of the two sides in the areas of promoting integrity and combating corruption, including the most important projects that ACTA is working on, especially in light of the similarity of the competencies of ACTA and MACC in fields of prevention, training and promoting integrity in the private sector, in order to exchange experiences between the two sides. In addition, the MACC has a specialised academy for anti-corruption studies, has considerable experience in internal control and evaluation, and also works in the field of investigation.
HE al-Misnad said that the Authority welcomes all forms of co-operation with the MACC to introduce the successful Qatari experience in preventing and combating corruption, in addition to exchanging experiences to contribute to enhancing integrity and transparency, to serve the interests of both sides; pointing out that the Malaysian delegation was briefed about the Qatari experience in combating corruption, and the two sides will work to enhance scientific and practical co-operation in this regard.
He added that the Malaysian delegation's visit to the Authority strengthens co-operation relations and exchanges experiences in the field of preventing and combating corruption, praising at the same time the efforts exerted by the MACC to achieve leadership in relevant international indicators, as well as its tireless efforts to enhance integrity and transparency in the international community and provide technical assistance to the countries, in addition to organising training courses, with the great support of the Malaysian government.
For his part, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stressed the strength of relations between Qatar and Malaysia, noting in this regard that his country hosted the ceremony honouring the winners of the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani International Excellence Award on Anti-Corruprion in its third edition in 2018, where His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and former prime minister of Malaysia Dr Mahathir Mohamad unveiled the memorial of the award in Putrajaya Square in the capital Kuala Lumpur; the monument, which appears in the form of a steel hand, symbolises that all countries of the world are joining hands in the fight against corruption.
For its part, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology showed a presentation to the Malaysian delegation on digital transformation and digital government in Qatar, which aims to upgrade the level of government services provided to individuals and companies, in addition to raising the efficiency of government administrative processes, increasing the level of transparency and openness of the government to the public. The MACC is one of the anti-corruption bodies that has achieved outstanding successes in the areas of promoting transparency and integrity and preventing and combating corruption since its establishment in 2009, and Malaysia's ranking on the Global Corruption Perceptions Index issued by Transparency International is relatively high.
