(MENAFN) A vessel with 11 on board has overturned off Kaikoura, New Zealand, based on domestic government. Police labelled the accident as an “unprecedented” as well as “tragic” event, announcing five dead, whereas six additional were saved from the waters.

Domestic mayor accused the accident on a tricky whale, which supposedly tipped the vessel, hitting it from below.

“We have an upturned boat tipped over by a whale from what we can understand, come up from underneath. We’ve shut the harbor down so that they can carry on working,” Kaikoura mayor Craig Mackle informed broadcaster RNZ.

Bad climate has been by now has been removed as a probable reason of the event, as the sea circumstances were “perfect, flat” at the time of the dipping, in line with the official.

Footage spreading on online shows some of the people who managed to live sitting on top of the overturned boat.
