Ukraine Could Become Europe's New Major Energy Supplier, Replacing Russia - Senior Official

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine can become a new major supplier of energy resources to the European Union, thus replacing the Russian Federation.

That's according to Deputy Head of the President's Office Rostyslav Shurma, who spoke at the Yalta European Strategy annual conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

'Currently, Europe consumes fossil fuels coming from Russia. This must change. It could be hydrogen and other energy sources. Ukraine is perfectly suited to become a new major energy supplier to Europe,' the official told participants in the event.

According to Shurma, Ukraine has enough resources to increase energy output, also boasting the already developed infrastructure for energy exports.

The deputy head of the President's Office emphasized that rejecting Russian energy supplies is a matter of the region's energy security. And this is a great opportunity for Ukraine's energy sector, too.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine could become one of the guarantors of energy security on the European continent, and called for investment in the Ukrainian gas industry.
