Queen is unable to attend Braemar Highland Games due to health concerns

Date:

(MENAFN) Highland games are a display of strength and agility. They are one of Scotland's sporting highlights, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate the northern country's rich culture and heritage in some of its most beautiful locations.

Braemar, a small village in Aberdeenshire, hosts one of the many games that take place throughout the summer.

The Queen has traditionally attended. However, due to her health, Queen Elizabeth II was unable to attend the event this year, instead sending Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

The royal presence was and is always appreciated, according to Jim Hamilton, who judges the bagpiping competition at the games.

"They always come to the games ... they are always represented," he stated.

The royal couple combined business and pleasure by officially opening a new archway to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee before the event began, complete with caber tossing, a tug of war, and Scottish country dancing.
