Srinagar : Veteran Kashmiri leader Moulvi Abbas Ansari, who was admitted to a hospital here on Friday, was recuperating after undergoing an emergency surgery for hemorrhagic stroke.
Moulvi Abbas Ansari was admitted in the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Friday morning where doctors conducted surgery on him for Chronic Subdural Hematoma (CSDH).
Hundreds of people rushed to SKIMS after the news of hospitalisation of senior most Kashmiri political and religious figure spread. With social media agog with rumours about Maulana's condition his son Masroor Abbas took to microblogging site twitter to rebuke rumour mongering about his father's health.
“Abaji had to be admitted to Soura Medical Institute this morning due to a minor hemorrhagic stroke and the doctors performed a timely & successful surgery and now he is safe and sound. People are requested not to pay heed to rumors. Maulvi Sahib has regained consciousness and his condition is improving now. People are requested to pray for his complete and speedy recovery,” Masroor tweeted.
One of the most popular leaders in the Kashmir valley, Moulvi Abbas Ansari is the last surviving politicians from the Plebiscite Front era.
A champion of Shia-Sunni unity he founded Ittehadul Muslimeen in 1962 after returning to Kashmir following decade long stay in Iraq where he studied theology at the famous Najaf Seminary. He also served as convenor of the Muslim United Front (MUF) and later chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
Moulvi Abbas retired from active political life in 2010 devoting his entire time to spiritual pursuits. He has not been keeping well for some time, family sources said.
