US Capitol Riot: Proud Boys 'recruit' gets more than 4 years in prison

(MENAFN) According to authorities, a member of the far-right Proud Boys organization was given a sentence of more than four years in prison for his participation in the January 6th Capitol storming.

As stated by US federal prosecutors, Chuck Schumer was being led to safety by his security team when he made contact with Joshua Pruitt, a 40-year-old Maryland citizen, during the riot.

“One look at Pruitt, and the leader of Senator Schumer’s security detail immediately saw the threat and hustled the 70-year-old senator down a hallway, having to change their evacuation route on a dime,” Assistant US Attorney Alexis Loeb stated in a court filing ahead of Monday’s hearing.

According to Bill Miller, a spokesman for the US Attorney's office for the District of Columbia, US District Judge Timothy Kelly sentenced Pruitt to four years and seven months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, on Monday.

The punishment is the most recent to be issued as investigations into the unrest on January 6 continue. During the riot, supporters of the late President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an effort to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden's victory in the election.
