Heiress to Disney criticizes company over Harvey Weinstein

(MENAFN) Activist Abigail Disney has urged the company to accept responsibility for ignoring the predatory actions of disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. She is a vocal opponent of the company and a frequent critic.

In an interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Thursday, she claimed that "Harvey was an open secret," or rather that there was no secret at all.

“Everyone knew what Harvey was about, and that was just fine as long as everybody saw it as, ‘Well, this is just how business is done.’ Nobody had the moral clarity to step up and say, ‘Well, not here. We don’t do it that way here,’” she stated.

“I think Disney needs to step up. When you’ve done a wrong thing, even if it’s only by stepping back and letting something happen, that’s still a wrong thing to do. And you have to take responsibility,” the activist highlighted.

Disney owned Miramax, Weinstein's production and distribution company, from 1993 to 2010. Numerous women have accused the producer of rape, sexual assault, and harassment over the course of his long and successful career in the entertainment industry, including during that time.
