Grenade Explosion At Afghanistan Cricket Match Prompts Responses

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Thomas West, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, condemned the Friday grenade blast in the Kabul international cricket stadium.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 29, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a quick recovery.
According to the statement of the UN Secretary-General,“attacks against civilians and civilian objects are strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law.”
While expressing condolences for the victims of this incident, Antonio Guterres noted that at least 19 civilians were wounded, while according to the Taliban reports, only four spectators were injured.
The Emergency Hospital in Kabul, however, reported that the hospital received a transfer of twelve injured and one deceased patient.
Thomas West, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, also extended his condolences and condemned the explosion at Kabul International Cricket Stadium.
“Violence serves no purpose and is not the answer for the people of Afghanistan,” he wrote on his Twitter handle in reaction to the explosion.
Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, is said to have expressed his sympathy and condemned the explosion, labeling it a terrorist incident.
Earlier, Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN's deputy special representative and coordinator for humanitarian affairs in Afghanistan, strongly condemned the“atrocious attack” that took place at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium.
An explosion occurred during a cricket match on Friday in Kabul's cricket stadium, according to Taliban officials and the police, which wounded four spectators, and the game was briefly interrupted.
