Maldives Speaker Nasheed's Brother Arrested
Maldives Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's brother Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in homosexual acts.
Nasheed tweeted saying Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration has arrested his brother selectively accusing him of homosexuality.
“Arrest was made against criminal procedures & is politically motivated to appease Hardline Extremists in coalition,” Nasheed tweeted.
Sun in the Maldives reported that the Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection to the case.
The Police have identified the suspects only as a 45-year-old Maldivian male, a 35-year-old Maldivian male, and a 46-year-old Maldivian male, Sun reported.
Sun has been informed they are Nazim, former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed), and Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, a police officer working for the Drug Enforcement Department (DED).
All three were on videos allegedly showing them having sex with MD Alamgiri, a young Bangladeshi national based in Male' who had been working as a prostitute.
Alamgiri was arrested on July 12. Police believe Alamgiri recorded himself having sex with clients, and later used the videos to blackmail them. (Sun / Colombo Gazette)
