Turkey declares it held no attack against resident in Iraq

(MENAFN) The nation’s foreign minister stated on Thursday that Turkey did not hold out any violence versus residents in northern Iraq's Duhok district.

Mevlut Cavusoglu stated in a live meeting with the Turkish broadcaster TRT Haber that "According to the information we received from the Turkish Armed Forces, we did not carry out any attack against civilians.”

Cavusoglu's comments made one day after a strike in Duhok’s Zakho district murdered eight people.

In an announcement issued after Wednesday's strike, the Turkish Foreign Ministry enquired Iraqi administration officials not to make speeches on the Duhok strike "under the influence of rhetoric and propaganda" of the PKK terrorist association.

In the meantime, Turkish security sources declined the reports "in support of the terrorist organization PKK/KCK" as well which requested that the residents were killed because of a "shelling" by Turkish militaries.

Cavusoglu stated that "We have announced that we can cooperate with the Iraqi authorities after the treacherous attack that we think was carried out by terrorist organizations. We reject both authorized and unauthorized statements regarding Türkiye."
