France might tackle shutdowns without Russian gas

(MENAFN) Energy-intensive companies in France are now getting ready for probable power outages over extra cutbacks of Russian natural gas deliveries, in accord with the CEO of Michelin, Florent Menegaux.

“What we’ve done is we’ve converted our boilers, so they’re capable of running on gas or oil, and we can even switch to coal if we need to,” Menegaux informed Reuters on the sidelines of a business and economics session which was held in southern France over the weekend.

The nation’s industrial majors have been moving forward with contingency strategies to prevent troubles amid grim cautions of a possible blockage of Russian gas supplies that are repeatedly issued by some EU presidents.

“The aim is to avoid having to shut down a plant in case we face a shortage,” he went on to say, claiming that while a gas reductions were possible, oil would still be obtainable as an option.
