Mehmet Tevfik Nane Is New IATA Chairman

Doha: Mehmet Tevfik Nane, Pegasus airlines Vice-Chairperson of the Board and Managing Director has been named as the new Chair of the International Air transport Association (IATA) Board of Governor for a one-year term.
The announcement was made during the 78th IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Doha yesterday at Sheraton Grand Doha. Nane is the 80th chair of the IATA Board of Governors, and will succeed JetBlue Airways CEO, Robin Hayes.
Nane served on the BoG since 2019. He was appointed CEO of Pegasus Airlines in 2016 until early this year before becoming the Vice-Chairperson of the Board at Pegasus Airlines.
The new chairman said he is honoured to take on the position at the time when the industry is emerging from worst downturn.“In addition to maintaining momentum toward re-opening the globe to travel and commerce, we have a very full agenda over the next 12 months. This includes achieving agreement at the ICAO Assembly on a Long Term Aspirational Goal for governments on aviation's decarbonization, refining the pathway to Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050, and broadening participation in the 25by2025 gender diversity initiative.”
The next venue for the 79th IATA AGM and World Air Transport Summit will be in Istanbul, Türkiye from June 4 to 6, hosted by Pegasus Airlines. With this, Nane said:“Istanbul is such a country where east meets west, north meets south and this special country… will show you history, culinary of the city.. We will make Türkiye as a memorable journey as something you will never forget. Looking forward to seeing all of you next year in Istanbul with great ambitions.”
Meanwhile, IATA also announced the first woman as the Chair of BoG – RwandAir CEO Yvonne Manzi Makolo, from June 2023, following Nane's term.
