Iran claims Greek gov't demands release of seized Iranian oil shipment

(MENAFN) Following Iran's reciprocal response, Greece authorized the return of the Iranian oil shipment it had impounded onboard a Russian-operated ship in Greek territorial seas on Tuesday.

According to the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization, despite the US decision to detain the ship and confiscate its cargo, the Greek government finally, in a decree, requested for the return of the consignment to its owner as a consequence of Iran's prompt and effective steps.

The ship will also be freed, according to the Greek government's instruction.

On US orders, Greece intercepted a Russian-operated ship in Greek territorial seas in May and confiscated its Iranian petroleum cargo. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran detained two Greek oil tankers in the Gulf a few days later for "committing maritime violations."
