TANGIER, 13th June, 2022 (WAM) -- The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam has called on all sectors of society to spread the humane values within the Document on Human Fraternity during his speech at the 'Tangier Religious Debate' in the Kingdom of Morocco.
During his speech, Abdelsalam called on universities, museums, cinemas, theaters, sporting institutions and the media to use appropriate and human language, since the Document on Human Fraternity was directed to all facets of society including politicians, decision-makers, intellectuals, and artists in order to bridge the gap between communities around the world. He also called for stronger multilateral work in the fields of policy, diplomacy, culture, education and at the grass-roots level to shed light on our shared human values and to create a global cultural movement which can inspire future generations.
Abdelsalam added, 'We must instill the values of dialogue and human fraternity into schools and younger generations around the world. This is something we have seen done in the United Arab Emirates, the Vatican, East Timor as well as Al Azhar and Georgetown University. I feel that every individuals and organisation around the world can play a positive role in building bridges of communication, peace and coexistence between societies. We must look to achieve a culture of encounter where our cultural differences complement each other rather be a reason of conflict.'
The Secretary-General concluded, 'The Youth Human Fraternity Council which was established in partnership with the European Union and the Federal Youth Authority in the United Arab Emirates is organising a number of meetings for youth from around the world to enable them to communicate amongst each other and strengthen international relations. This goes with the great cooperation established with international institutions such as the United Nations, FIFA, the Arigatou International Foundation as well research centres in addition to cultural ministries in Germany and Azerbaijan. The Muslim Council of Elders, in cooperation with Georgetown University, is also scheduled to host a youth conference on human fraternity this coming September with 75 participants from the East and West.'
The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders is currently attending the 'Tangier Religious Debate' in the Kingdom of Morocco which includes various representatives of governments, religious leaders and diplomats from around the world. The event is held under the patronage of Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as Miguel Ángel Moratinos, UN High-Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations and the Aladdin Centre for countering extremism.
