Greek inflation has reached 30-year peak


(MENAFN) According to the most recent Hellenic Statistical Authority figures, inflation in Greece increased to 11.3 percent year on year in May, up from 10.2 percent the previous month (ELSTAT).

The most recent increase is being blamed on rising energy, housing, transportation, and food expenses.

As per ELSTAT, natural gas costs jumped by 172.7 percent on a yearly basis, while electricity bills increased by 80.2 percent and heating oil costs rose by 65.1 percent. Housing costs allegedly increased by 35% on annual basis, transportation costs increased by 18.8 percent, and food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 12.1%.

Oil and fat prices increased by 23.2 percent, while dairy prices increased by 14.1 percent. Costs for meat, bread and cereal, and vegetables rose by 13.8 percent, 13.4 percent, and 13 percent, correspondingly.
