After restaurant fight, Chinese authorities arrested 9 women

(MENAFN) Nine men have been detained in connection with a horrific attack on a group of ladies at a restaurant in northern China, sparking indignation about predatory sexual behavior and violence against women.

CCTV footage of the event, which was extensively disseminated online, shows a guy resting his hand on a woman's back as she eats with two friends at a barbecue restaurant in the early hours of Friday in Tangshan, Hebei province.

After the lady pulls him away, the man attacks her before others bring her outside and inflict a torrent of blows while she lies on the floor. Another lady is knocked to the ground.

The video rapidly went viral on China's internet, reigniting a discussion about sexual assault and gender-based violence in a nation where the dialogue about women's rights has risen in recent years despite pressure from a patriarchal society, online censorship, and uneven legal assistance.
