Brasília – Brazil's National Council of Justice (CNJ) launched on Friday (3), in partnership with the Brazilian Notarial College (CNB), the electronic apostille service for national documents to be used overseas.
The new service allows for receiving online, via email or cellphone, birth and marriage certificates , school diplomas and other national public documents in electronic form, with a QR Code that allows for foreign authorities to check their authenticity.
Apostille is an international document certification followed by the 122 signatory states of the Hague Apostille Convention .
If the convention applies between two countries, an apostille issued by the country of origin is sufficient to certify the document and removes the need for further certification by the destination country, thus eliminating bureaucratic steps.
Brazil signed the treaty in 2015, and the apostille has been available in the country's notaries since 2016. On Friday (3), CNJ and CNB presented the notaries with the new function of the e-Apostil platform that allows for the electronic apostille of documents.
The National Correctional Justice and Superior Court of Justice (STJ) member Maria Thereza de Assis Moura said the new tool came to“consolidate the purposes of streamlining and simplifying” the service.
CNJ is responsible in Brazil for regulating the activities of the notaries and enforcing the law governing the notarial activities.
