Geneva: Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari met yesterday with the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General H E Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at the organisation's headquarters in Geneva.

The Minister conveyed Qatar's congratulations to WHO Director-General on his re-election for a second term, expressing her wishes for him to continue his great efforts for the benefit of the WHO.

Dr. Al Kuwari said that the re-election of Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus came thanks to his leadership throughout the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to his efforts to improve health systems and implement the priorities of WHO at the global level. Her Excellency also expressed her congratulations to him for the success of the 75th session of the World Health Assembly, which was held May 22 to 28 with the participation of the State of Qatar delegation.

The meeting dealt with reviewing aspects of cooperation between Qatar and the WHO in various health fields, and the health partnership for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022“Creating a Legacy for Sports and Health”, which aims to ensure the organization of a healthy and safe World Cup in Qatar that would become an exceptional model for hosting major sporting events in the future.
