ACB Hires Gul As Afghanistan's Bowling Coach
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Umar Gul, Pakistan's former quickie, has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Afghanistan national team.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) says Gul has been offered an initial contract until the end of the current year.
Set to accompany the Afghan squad on its tour of Zimbabwe in June, Gul served as the bowling coach of Quetta Gladiators in the last edition of PSL.
Afghanistan cricketers left for Zimbabwe on Wednesday afternoon for a series of three ODIs, part of the World Cup Super League, and three T20Is.
He was hired by ACB as its bowling consultant during a training camp in the UAE in April.
Also last month, the board appointed ex-Pakistan skipper Younis Khan as batting consultant.
ACB said Gul worked with Afghan fast bowlers and considering his effectiveness in the camp, a decision had been taken on offering him a permanent contract.
