Amman, Jordan – March 6, 2022: PepsiCo, in collaboration with Jordan Ice and Aerated Water Company (JICE), has recently partnered with The Orenda Tribe to create innovative tools that educate children about recycling and sustainability under its Aquafina brand.
PepsiCo’s investment in environmental education falls under its global sustainability strategy, pep+ (PepsiCo Positive), an umbrella for inspiring positive change for the good of the planet and its inhabitants. In the MENA region, PepsiCo is accelerating its efforts to reduce, recycle, and reinvent packaging materials as it leads the evolution towards eco-conscious consumption in a circular economy. For their latest project, PepsiCo and JICE have partnered with The Orenda Tribe, a social enterprise that uses art and storytelling to champion youth and empower communities.
Together, these partners have developed a series of tools to educate children about sorting and recycling waste. With the support of PepsiCo and JICE, The Orenda Tribe has created an educational and engaging impact box, a booklet, and a digital app featuring three games, all of which teach children how to recycle, upcycle, and make more sustainable and environmentally friendly choices.
The initiative was officially announced during a launch event held on March 5, which was attended by government ministers, representatives of diplomatic and commercial missions, local charitable foundations, media personnel, and local influencers. The event featured presentations about the project, including a showcase of the educational tools by The Orenda Tribe. Meanwhile, JICE highlighted some of the organization’s efforts to transition towards sustainable manufacturing, including water replenishment and water-saving tactics as well as their use of solar energy to power facilities. PepsiCo also showcased their strategic end-to-end transformation with sustainability at the center of how the company will create growth and value. The attendees were invited to bring their children to attend a parallel workshop, where they had the opportunity to creatively upcycle Aquafina bottles.
Wael Ismail, PepsiCo’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs for MENA and Pakistan, said, “As a global brand, we at PepsiCo recognize our responsibility to help promote sustainability around the world—particularly because of our ability to achieve great reach and impact through these efforts. As part of our pep+ strategy, we are deeply committed to encouraging a culture of recycling and upcycling worldwide, so that we can ultimately reduce the amount of waste and accelerate the adoption of a circular economy.”
Motassem Salameh, HR and PR Director for Jordan Ice and Aerated Water Company (JICE), said, “At JICE, we have always worked to support environmental sustainability in Jordan, whether through water conservation, solar energy, or other means. With this latest initiative, we are eager to play our part in encouraging sustainability from an early age, teaching children about recycling and the circular economy in a fun, engaging way.”
Zaid Souqi, Founder of The Orenda Tribe, added, “As a value-based brand, we at The Orenda Tribe are always eager to partner with businesses and organizations that add further value to our purpose and objectives. As such, it is our pleasure to join forces with PepsiCo and JICE in support of such an important cause.”
Following the initiative’s launch in Jordan, the partners have plans to expand the project into several other countries, raising awareness and engaging children across the MENA region in activities related to recycling and environmental sustainability.
