NHRI UAE participates in the Int. Conference on Solidarity and Sustainable Development in Cairo

ABU DHABI, 2nd March, 2022 (WAM) -- The National Human Rights Institution UAE (NHRI UAE) has participated in the International Conference on Solidarity and the UN Sustainable Development Plan for 2030 - pivotal to SDG 16 'Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions', which was hosted by the Arab Network for NHRIs from 27 - 28 February 2022, in Cairo.

Headed by Maqsoud Kruse, the Chairperson of NHRI UAE, the delegation included Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy of the Chairperson, Mariam Al Ahmadi, member of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the International Relations and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee, Amro Al Qahtani, Manager of the Chairperson's Office and the Board of Trustees Affairs and Committees.

The conference, which was held in cooperation with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Development Program and the General Secretariat of the Arab League, has attracted extensive participation of experts from all national human rights institutions that are members of the Arab Network. Additionally, it had representatives of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, the secretariats of the four regional networks accredited by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.

Fruitful discussions took place at the conference, involving many ministers, ambassadors, local, regional and international human rights stakeholders and representatives of the civil society. The event's key objective was to strengthen the role of NHRIs and enable them to implement sustainable development goals and encourage international cooperation and solidarity to revitalise and implement the 2030 sustainable development plan.

Established by Federal Law No. (12) of 2021, NHRI UAE is an independent national entity, with a work charter based on the Paris Principles for NHRIs Act of 1993, and relevant international treaties and conventions.
