(MENAFN- Hamad Bin Khalifa University) Doha, February 19, 2022: Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) and Qatar National Library are partnering to host a workshop scheduled virtually for February 26, 2022 at 2 pm, titled HBKU Press in Collaboration with Qatar National Library Presents: Tips on Publishing Books in Qatar. The workshopaims to provide aspiring authors with comprehensive details and support on the manuscript submission process.
“HBKU Press is committed to hosting these workshops in line with our mandate to provide valuable resources and training opportunities for the wider community,” explained Muneera Saad Al-Romaihi, Community Outreach Specialist at HBKU Press.
“The theme of this workshop will be especially engaging as we’ve seen a marked increase in submissions over the past two years. We want to ensure that aspiring authors have every chance of success when they endeavor to break into the publishing world, whether it is to publish with HBKU Press or with international publishers abroad.”
The workshop is being organized in partnership with Qatar National Library as a part of its public programs that are available to the local community.
“We have an active writing community at the Qatar National Library, in Arabic and English. Our team of librarians - as well as our collection - offer a number of resources to support writers and we welcome the opportunity to offer advice where possible,” said Lynne Marie Fraser, Senior English Writing Specialist at Qatar National Library. “This program will be an opportunity for writers to learn about publishing books in Qatar with HBKU Press, and to ask questions about what editors look for in submissions. For many writers, these will be invaluable insights.”
The webinar will be led by Ghenwa Yehia, Content Development Specialist and award-winning children’s book author at HBKU Press. Topics to be explored include the importance of researching publishers to align with an author’s work, understanding the different types of publishing models, tips for submission package preparation, and a walk through the stages of publishing if a manuscript is accepted.
“Breaking into the publishing industry as a first-time author can be intimidating and overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be,” said Yehia. “This workshop was developed based on the benchmarks we uphold at HBKU Press and through some of my own personal experiences as a published author. Ultimately, I hope that participants will come away from this feeling that they are better equipped to pursue their goal of getting published while breaking down some of the complexities of the process as a whole.”
