Greece's parliament permits acquisition of missiles

(MENAFN) In an attempt to reinforce the nation’s navy, on Tuesday, Greece's parliament permitted the acquisition of three French warships, six more Rafale fighters, and 44 SeaHake torpedoes for Type 214 submarines.

Legislators from the governing New Democracy group, the Greek Solution alliance, and the Movement of Change (KINAL) all of which voted in favor of the bill.

The issue was extensively deliberated in parliament in the previous week, as opposing forces condemned the government for the procurement.

During a discussion in parliament on a plan to strengthen up the nation's defense forces and equipment, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis remarked that "the message that the Greek parliament is called upon to send today is a message of unity and national responsibility."
