Qatar Chamber calls for activation of business council of Qatar, Morocco

Officials of Qatar Chamber and the Qatar-Morocco Business Council held a meeting yesterday to explore investment opportunities for Qatar and Morocco and how to enhance business ties for both countries' private sectors.
During the meeting, Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari and Mohamed Baida discussed ways to activate the joint business council for Qatar and Morocco.
Baida is the president of the Moroccan side of the Qatar-Morocco Business Council. He and al-Kuwari were joined by Ismail al-Ansari, the vice president of the council's Qatari side during the meeting.
The officials discussed ways of enhancing co-operation between Qatari and Moroccan companies and investment opportunities available in both countries, in addition to the possibility of establishing alliances between companies from both sides.
Addressing the meeting, al-Kuwari underscored the strong relations between both countries and the common will to strengthen economic and commercial relations, noting that Morocco“is a promising market” and offers a lot of opportunities that attract Qatari businessmen.
Al-Kuwari also said that despite the“remarkable growth” of trade exchange between Qatar and Morocco during the last five years,“it is still below the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.” Qatar-Morocco trade exchange witnessed a 130% increase from QR330mn in 2017 to QR754mn in 2021.
Currently, there are 80 Moroccan firms operating in Qatar in partnership with Qatari companies in various fields, including hospitality, trading, contracting, fashion, and business solutions, al-Kuwari noted.
For his part, Baida said there are many Moroccan companies that are willing to invest in Qatar, an indication that Qatar offers an attractive investment climate and a myriad of investment opportunities that attract the interest of Moroccan companies.
He noted that the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, to which the joint business councils are affiliated, includes more than 90,000 companies and seeks to enhance Moroccan foreign commercial relations.
Al-Ansari placed emphasis on the importance of activating the Qatar-Morocco Business Council, noting that there is“a strong desire” for Qatari businessmen to strengthen co-operation with their Moroccan counterparts and discuss how to forge investment partnerships in various fields.
