Afghanistan - Pakistan military use equipment leftover by NATO forces: Rasheed Ahmad

KABUL: The Pakistan interior minister said that the country's military is using the equipment leftover by the NATO forces—who fought a period of 20-year as part of the US and other alliances countries' military mission in Afghanistan.

However, the Islamic Emirate denied the remarks of the senior Pakistani official.

Pakistan Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad told Pakistani news channel Geo News that the modern equipment remaining of NATO forces will be used against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups in the country.

“They (the Pakistan military) use military equipment remaining from NATO forces. In my opinion, the Afghan Taliban made all-out efforts to convince the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), but they don't understand. They are present in Kunar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Paktia and Khost provinces, which are alongside the (Durand Line), and they carry out attacks against Pakistan. The attacks have surged.”

The Islamic Emirate also denies the presence of any group, including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, on Afghan soil.

“We assure and pledge that there is no threat from Afghan soil to any country. The problem exists in Pakistan, it is their own internal problem,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

This comes as Pakistan itself is accused of providing safe haven to terrorist groups. The country FATF has blacklisted North Korea and Iran over terror financing

Rasheed Ahmad's remarks come after talks between the TTP and Pakistan government failed to reach any solution and which in turn led to a new series of attacks in several parts of Pakistan.

The International Crisis Group said that Pakistan is seeking to take further benefits from the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
