KABUL (Pajhwok): India and Central Asia have agreed on setting up a joint working group on Afghanistan and the use of Chabahar port in Iran.

The agreement came during the first India-Central Asia summit, with leaders from both sides saying they were closely watching the crisis in the war-battered country.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said:“We all have the same concerns and objectives for regional security. We are all concerned about the developments in Afghanistan.”

WION quoted him as saying:“In this context also, our mutual cooperation has become even more important for regional security and stability.”

Plans are being considered to include the Chabahar Port under the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) that connects Mumbai and Moscow.

The two sides decided the joint working group, involving senior officials, would be particularly focussed on Afghanistan and the evolving situation there.
