Dubai launches science talents fund

São Paulo – The government of Dubai launched this week an initiative to find 1,000 exceptional scientific talents. Called ' Great Arab Minds ,' it was announced by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, according to the Arabian Business news website.

The emirate expects to allocate AED 100 million (USD 27.22 million at the current rate) to help find 1,000 talents in fields ranging from physics and mathematics to software and data science, economics , higher education, and research.

The fund will be managed by the Museum of the Future (pictured above), a new scientific landmark in the emirate, expected to open its doors soon. The initiative will have a committee of four UAE ministers to develop a system to identify and highlight the talents it will support.

The committee will be chaired by Mohammad Al Gergawi, president of the Museum of the Future ; also including Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs; Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Technology, and chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency; and Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.
