Turkey saves 79 refuge searchers moved back by Greece from its seas

(MENAFN) According to the Turkish Coast Guard Command statement on Saturday, the Turkish state rescued a number of 79 refugee searchers from the Aegean Sea, off the shore of the Izmir province.

The statement also mentioned that the refuge hunters involve 30 irregular refugees who were unlawfully moved back by Greece into Turkish seas, three refugees pushed into the sea by Greece, and 46 irregular refugees in two expandable boats that are going through engine failure. Moreover, all of the refuge searchers were departed to provincial migration offices.

Turkey and human rights groups have constantly criticized Greece’s unlawful action of pushing back refuge seekers, stating that it breaks international law and humanitarian standards by putting the lives of vulnerable refugees in danger, and that involves women as well as children.

Turkey has been a vital transit point for haven seekers who intend to go to Europe to start new lives, particularly those escaping from war and oppression.
