Qatar - Labor Ministry, QC, ILO Project Office hold first meeting


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The first semi-annual meeting was held yesterday via videoconferencing between the Ministry of Labor, Qatar Chamber (QC), and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Project Office in Doha.

During the meeting, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor for Labor Affairs Mohammed Hassan Al Obaidli stressed that the State of Qatar has achieved pioneering successes and achievements in the labor sector, thanks to concerted efforts, through the ministry's continuous cooperation with local and international bodies.

The Ministry of Labor undertakes tasks according to its competencies to achieve regulation of the labor market within the country, as well as implement policies for recruitment and localisation, and is keen to implement the labor law in coordination and partnership with various state institutions, Al Obaidli added.

He also referred to the challenges and impacts at all levels and sectors that faced the entire world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the way the State of Qatar managed to deal with the crisis to reduce the risks and damages resulting from it by supporting the private sector in the country. 

For his part, Assistant Director-General for Government Relations and Committees Affairs at QC Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansouri said that the QC is keen to hold frequent introductory seminars on labor laws for the private sector to educate business owners, pointing to the QC's vital role in supporting the state's efforts to stabilise and enhance the Qatari labor market, as well as the reforms in the labor and workers sector.

He said that the QC aspires to further its cooperation with international labor organisations to reach a more competitive and knowledge-based economy in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy.

He also noted QC's support for the efforts made by the Ministry of Labor to regulate the Qatari labor market, as well as the cooperation between the Ministry of Labor and the ILO, and all measures aimed at developing the work environment in Qatar. The meeting aimed to enhance partnership, cooperation, and exchange of views between the participating parties on issues related to the fields of labor in the country.
