UAE's top diplomat visits Syria  first  in almost a decade

According to official media on Tuesday, Nov.9 the Emarati chief diplomat met Syria's President Bashar Al Assad in Damascus, marking its first journey by a senior United Arab Emarites figure since the country's civil war started decade ago.

The trip is largely regarded as part of local desire to undermine Assad's political exile as Syria struggles with a spiraling financial catastrophe brought about years of fighting and exacerbated by a slew of Western sanctions.

According to Syrian state broadcaster SANA, "President Assad received UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan" and an associated group.

They debated diplomatic trade between the two comradely regions as well as methods to expand bilateral ties areas of mutual interest," the spokesman declared.

According to UAE official media, the foreign affairs minister "underlined the UAE's keenness on ensuring Syria's security, stability, and unity" in the discussion.
