Islamic Jihad prisoners start hunger strike in Israeli prisons


(MENAFN) A Palestinian NGO affirmed that nearly 250 Palestinian prisoners from the Islamic Jihad faction started an open-ended hunger strike to complain Israel’s disciplinary rules against prisoners.

In accordance to Palestinian Detainee Society leader Qadura Fares during a news meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah “Around 100 of the prisoners will stop drinking water after one week.”

Fares also said “The hunger strike is part of protests by the detainees to defend their rights” and declared that prisoners from other Palestinian groups is going to participate in the strike soon, as there are almost 400 Palestinian prisoners from the Islamic Jihad faction in Israeli jails.
