Qatar University marks success of Summer Research Internship

Doha: The Research and graduate Studies Sector at Qatar University (QU) organised a Certificate Distribution Ceremony to mark the success of the Summer Research Internship Program 2021.  The virtual event was attended by Dr. Nasser Abdullah Alnuaimi, Associate Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies, the directors of research centres, faculty members, researchers, and participating students.

Ten research centres of QU conducted this programme from June 7 to July 1, 2021. The participating centres included the Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Environmental Science  Center (ESC), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Qatar University Young Scientists Center (YSC),  Social & Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Ibn Khaldoon Center (IKC), National Education Development Center (NEDC), and Gas Processing Center (GPC).

This internship was organised for graduate and undergraduate students of QU, students from the Academic Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD) member universities, and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) employees.

As part of the preventive measures followed by QU to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Internship was conducted online.  A total of 28 specific research-related topics were covered during the internship, and around 250 participants from different colleges actively participated in programme.

Dr. Abdelbary Elhissi, Director of Research Planning and Development, said,“This programme is an important part of QU's transformative and human resources capacity, building strategy and commitments toward national research priority.”

Dr. Nasser Abdullah Alnuaimi, Associate Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies, thanked all who participated in this internship, saying,“The programme allows the students to promote their skills in scientific research, support their theoretical knowledge with practical training in their specialisation, and pave the way toward a successful future career.”
