Pakistan’s PM calls on UN to summon world community to help Afghanistan
(MENAFN) On Saturday morning, Sep. 25 Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan called on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to summon the world community to offer financial support to Afghanistan in the existing catastrophe.
A report released by the Prime Minister's Office said that during an online address to the 76th session of the UNGA, Khan noted the world has no time to waste, and if urgent humanitarian support is not provided to the country, it might have very severe repercussions for the world.
"If we neglect Afghanistan right now, according to the UN, half the people of Afghanistan are already vulnerable, and by next year almost 90 percent of the people in Afghanistan will go below the poverty line. There is a huge humanitarian crisis looming ahead. And this will have serious repercussions not just for the neighbors of Afghanistan but everywhere."
"In trying to force a military solution is where the U.S. went wrong," and if Afghanistan is not backed by the world community, it will turn into a refuge for world terrorists, he added.
