U.S. stock market settles lower, recording weekly decrease
(MENAFN) On Friday, Sep. 17 the US stock market settled lower, whereas indices recorded weekly decreases.
As Goldman Sachs and Coca-Cola declined 1.3 percent and 1.6 percent, each, the Dow Jones decreased 166 points, or 0.48 percent, hitting 34,584. The blue-chip index fell 0.06 percent in the present week.
The S&P 500 fell 40 points, or 0.91 percent, reaching 4,432. The index plunged 0.57 percent for the week.
With AMC Entertainment plummeting 4% and Facebook decreasing 2.2 percent, the Nasdaq declined 138 points, or 0.91 percent, hitting 15,043. The tech-heavy index lost 0.47 percent during the current week.
The VIX volatility index, also recognized as the fear index, surged 11.3 percent reaching 20.81.
