Media minister says Jordan adamant to empower women

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug 31 (Petra) -- Jordan has a political will to empower women, promote their involvement in politics and seek the abolishment of the glass ceiling against them in the workplace, said media minister Sakher Dudin.
Addressing a workshop Tuesday titled "Empowerment of Female Parliamentarians and Politicians in Media," Dudin called for a collaborative public-private effort to empower women economically, especially that women in Jordan comprise 15 percent of the overall workforce, according to a report published by the Department of Statistics.
He said in the workshop, organised by the Jordanian Masarat Foundation for Development, that unemployment amongst women stands at 33.6 percent, compared with 21.2 percent amongst males, again citing the DoS report.
Founder of the Masarat Foundation and former media minister, Jumana Ghunaimat, underscored the role of media in keeping the public informed, emphasising the importance of equipping women with the tools they need to manage media.
The workshop was held in cooperation with the Women's Parliamentary Committee and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES).
