Yemen to receive World Bank USD 20 mln grant for COVID-19 response


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ADEN, June 17 (KUNA) -- Yemen confirmed on Friday it would be handed a USD 20 million grant package for COVID-19 vaccination and response efforts from the World Bank.
The sum, which was provided by several countries and bodies, increases the World Bank's COVID-19 contributions to Yemen to a total of USD 47 million, Yemen's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Bathib said.
Contributors to the grant include the International Development Association (USD 9 million), UK Foreign Office (USD 7.76 million) and the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Fund (USD 3.25 million).
The funds will support the administration, labarotary monitoring and analysis of vaccines, handed out to at least 1.3 million people, while providing training for two national COVID-19 hotline centers in Aden and Sanaa. (end)
