France investigates personal wealth of central bank chief in crisis-hit Lebanon

(MENAFN)AFP quoted sources as saying that France launched an investigation into the personal wealth of Riad Salameh, central bank chief in crisis-hit Lebanon.

According to a source close to the investigation and a judicial source, Paris financial prosecutors launched a preliminary probe into criminal association and money laundering by Salameh.

Its findings could concentrate onto the origins of the 70-year-old former Merill Lynch banker’s wealth.

Salameh was charged by the government of caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab of being responsible for the fall down of the Lebanese pound, in a post since 1993 and once greeted by political and business leaders.
