MoI makes arrangements for smooth traffic on Eid

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has doubled its efforts to ensure smooth traffic during the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Traffic patrols will be enhanced on commercial streets, areas around shopping malls, Eid prayer grounds and mosques, and slaughterhouses among others.

The General Directorate of Traffic has prepared a plan for Eid holidays and deployed more traffic patrols in all areas of the country. ''A plan has been prepared in advance for Eid. All the patrols are ready.

During these days, our focus is on the markets and commercial streets where more people visit for shopping purposes,” said Colonel Muhammad Radi Al Hajri, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department of the General Directorate of Traffic.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Colonel Al-Hajri said that the Department has completed all its preparations to control the movement of vehicles during the Eid Al Fitr through a comprehensive traffic plan that covers all areas of the country, with an aim of reducing accidents, traffic jams, and other common traffic violations.

''The traffic patrols will enhance their presence in vital areas, such as commercial streets, areas around commercial complexes as well as residential areas with high population density,” he added.

He said the patrols will continue inspections regarding the precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 including the number of people in a vehicle and checking health status on Ehteraz app.

''Tala’a project which uses cameras installed at strategic locations of roads and roundabouts will help the Department to monitor and catch traffic violations of all kinds. These cameras could transfer a direct, high-quality image of road traffic,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Traffic continued its Ramadan meetings with the Central Municipal Council members as part of the community partnership programme to implement its annual operational plan in cooperation with the Hamad Trauma Center at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The virtual meeting was held with Hamad bin Abdullah Al Henzab, a Central Municipal Council member who represents Constituency No 12.

The meeting was attended by Colonel Al Hajri; Dr. Hassan Al Thani, Head of Trauma and Vascular Surgery Section, HMC; and Major Mohammad Sulaiman Al Hammadi, Head of the Traffic Awareness Section.

Al Hajri said that these meetings come within the framework of the Department’s keenness to enhance community partnership and communicate with all members of society, as well as contribute to finding solutions and proposals that reflect positively on the traffic situation.
