Kenyan horticulture exports climbs to USD1.37 bln in 2020
(MENAFN)On Tuesday, May. 4 an administration official stated that the Kenyan horticulture exports income climbed to 148 billion shillings (USD1.37 billion) last year, a rise from USD1.27 billion posted in the prior year.
Proceeds from the industry rose in spite of a marginal decline in volumes shipped abroad, said Benjamin Tito, head of Horticultural Crops Directorate under state corporation the Agriculture and Food Authority, to Xinhua in Nairobi.
Tito observed that Kenya’s new produce drew higher prices in foreign markets as lower volumes were obtainable in the international market mostly because of the travel constraints put in place in 2020 to control the spread of coronavirus.
Kenya’s key horticultural crops comprise flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
