Qatar- Rapid rollout of 5G network to open new business opportunities: Yang
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The rapid rollout of 5G network in the region is expected to open new business opportunities and help Gulf nations in their economic recovery in the current and post coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic era, Huawei Middle East president Charles Yang has said.
'There is a very important role for 5G to play particularly 5G is world poised to enable many industry sectors, he told reporters at a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.
Citing an example, Yang said Huawei is already working with STC and Aramco in Saudi Arabia to help improve the efficiency of operations and reduce costs; and in the UAE, it partnered with Etisalat to improve the productivity of their operations.
In Qatar, he said they could explore on how to make airports more intelligent and make transportation more efficient with 5G and 'I believe this kind of use cases will definitely stimulate economic growth and reduce costs.
'There is a lot of use cases that could come out from 5G and we have already signed more than 1,000 contracts for industrial 5G applications in more than 20 industries, enabling industries globally outside of China and as we accumulate more and more experience in this regard, we can replicate a lot of success stories to the Gulf countries to support their economic success and to support our telecom operators in monetising the 5G network, Yang added.
In 2020, he said that Huawei supported the stable operations of more than 300 networks across more than 170 countries, helping operators with online services, and minimised the impact of the pandemic.
'5G implementation is accelerating, Qatar and GCC is leading 5G deployment globally and Huawei is committed to support 5G development in GCC and the region, he said.
'Currently, Qatar is at the most important sprint stage before the World Cup. Huawei 5G to help reshape FIFA World Cup 2022 to be the most amazing experience in sporting history. Key event security protection and infrastructure investment and construction are the highest priorities, Yang added.
In the post pandemic era, he said the Qatar government and enterprises are all actively pushing for industrial digitalisation, upgrading smart systems and solutions to enhance the level of city governance and public services.
According to Yang, Huawei looks to new opportunity to support industry digitisation in Qatar and the region with an emphasis on 5G, talent development, and tackling cybersecurity challenges.
'To achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030, Qatar has treated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development as one of the national strategies, aiming to make Qatar as the regional data hub. Based on the above macro context, Huawei, at the Milipol 2021, brings the City Intelligent Twins Structure Solution for the first time in the Middle East region, together with other latest technologies, in the fields of Cloud, AI, Computing and connectivity, he said.
Yang noted that the City Intelligent Twins is a smart platform designed for city governments by Huawei, clients and partners. It is based on the cloud, and centred at AI, and supports full-scenario collaboration, full-system collaboration and continuous evolution.
'We are in Qatar, and for Qatar. For the past three years, we have created over 1,000 jobs, cultivated over 2,500 ICT talents, and growing up with over 300 local partners. In the next three years, we aim to cultivate over 10,000 ICT talents, empowering Qatar's future development and national strategy, Yang stressed.
