Jordan- Police arrest gathering rule-breakers, including foreigners

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar. 16 (Petra) -- Police arrested Monday night a number of persons, including some Arab nationals, who staged illegal gatherings in some areas of the Kingdom and refused to break their assemblies, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement released Tuesday.
The statement said the gatherings violate defense orders and are detrimental to public health given the current epidemiological situation in the Kingdom. It indicated that police warned those who started to assemble in a number of locations that they must not gather as per the defense law and other health instructions.
A large number of people complied with orders and left but others refused despite being warned multiple times, which prompted security forces to break the gatherings, the statement added.
A number of persons clashed with police injuring several officers, according to the PSD, which also indicated public and private properties were deliberately vandalized.
The PSD called on all citizens to take account the current "serious" epidemiological situation in the country and obey the law, stay away from gatherings and follow health instructions in place to contain the pandemic.
