UAE- Sharjah Police seize 460 e-scooters, bicycles

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A total of 462 e-scooters, motorcycles and bicycles were seized by the Sharjah Police in the first week of March for violating safety norms.

Sharjah Police Traffic and Patrols Department had launched a campaign on March 2 to end the usage of such vehicles on main roads.

Major Mohammed Rashid Al Shehhi, Head of the Traffic Investigation and Control Department at the Traffic and Patrols Department of Sharjah Police, said the first week of the crackdown resulted in the seizure of 104 motorbikes, 53 scooters, and 305 bicycles.

A number of riders were penalised for driving cycles in places and roads designated for vehicles, and for failure in complying with safety requirements such as wearing helmets and special clothing.

Major Al Shehhi added that motorcycles and scooters were involved in a number of accidents in the Sharjah Industrial Zone, resulting in serious injuries to riders.

Al Shehi called on riders of scooters, motorbikes, and bicycles to adhere to safety rules while on the roads and wearing of helmets and phosphorous clothing to help other motorists easily see them on the roads.
