Jordan- Lower House approves amendments to Companies, Anti-Human Trafficking laws
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar. 3 (Petra) -- The Lower House of Parliament on Wednesday approved a draft law amending the Companies Law and the draft law amending the Anti-Human Trafficking Law.
Companies Law reasons for amendments came due to the enforcement of the provisions of the Associations Law that subjects non-profit companies to its provisions on the grounds that they are private associations and they have to adjust their positions according to its provisions, which revealed several problems since non-profit companies were established to operate on commercial basis under the umbrella of a legislative system, including the Trade Law and the Companies Law, which regulated the establishment, management, purpose, and capital of non-profit companies, the changes that occur to them, the transfer of shares between partners, their liquidation and the devolution of their funds.
Reasons also included that this situation was inconsistent with the provisions of the Associations Law, so it became necessary to include what is related to non-profit companies in the Companies Law.
Regarding the Anti-Human Trafficking Law amendments, Minister of State Mahmoud Kharabsheh said that the draft law protects young beggars who are exploited and protects people from bonded labor.
Kharabsheh indicated that the draft law protects the vulnerable person, pointing out that begging is a disturbing phenomenon and there are many who exploit people in this phenomenon.
The reasons for amending -Human Trafficking Law came to increase the penalties for perpetrators of human trafficking crimes in a way that achieves public and private deterrence, guarantees the achievement of justice, provides protection to victims and those affected by these crimes and creates appropriate conditions to help and care for them, as well as establishing a special fund to help victims of human trafficking and compensating them due to damages they incurred.
Today's session was chaired by House Speaker, MP Abdul Muneim Odat, and attended by Cabinet Members.
