Afghanistan- President Ghani: Soviet's Inappropriate Exit Plan Led to 'Civil War'
(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday said that the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was not the cause of the civil war; instead, he said, there wasn't a plan for the country in the Soviet exit plan. Afghan leaders, said Ghani, believe this lack of planning led the country into a civil war.
On the day of the 32nd anniversary of the Soviet troop's withdrawal, President Ashraf Ghani said that the civil war in Afghanistan was not because of the Soviet exit but due to an inappropriate exit plan.
President Ghani in a video message he indicated that Afghanistan entered into a multi-dimensional civil war as Soviet withdrawal did not have any measure for the future of the country.
He indicated that we should learn from the past and that Afghanistan has the opportunity to end the war and achieve prolonged peace.
The peace preserved by the Afghan security and civil institutions will benefit children, women, youth, and all the deprived layers of Afghanistan.
According to Ghani Afghanistan is in need of peace that preserves Afghan Dignity.
Many Afghans were killed, murdered, and were displaced during the civil war, following the fall of the soviet backed government and Russian withdrawal from the region.
Meanwhile, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hizb-e-Islami says the US has no option but to leave Afghanistan, and if the Afghan government failed to abide by conditions laid out in the US-Taliban agreement, there would be a revolt against the government.
He claimed that the 'Afghan government is planning for the battle by providing arms to militias and those warlords who previously had fought against the Taliban.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, once an ally of Al-Qaeda and famous for shelling Kabul city with other jihadist groups were all involved in the civil war, in which Afghanistan and its people suffered heavily. (Khaama Press)
