Jordan- House speaker, Cypriot envoy discuss parliamentary cooperation

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Feb. 11 (Petra)-Speaker of the Lower House, Abdel Moneim Awdat, discussed with the Cypriot ambassador to Jordan, Michalis Ioannou, ways to develop bilateral relations in all fields, especially in the parliamentary domain.
Speaking during his meeting with Ioannou, on Thursday, Awdat stressed importance of continuing consultations between the two countries' parliaments to achieve common interests.
Awdat also stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the trilateral meetings that brought together His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Cypriot President and the Greek Prime Minister in the past few years to serve interests of the three countries' peoples.
Jordan and Cyprus share common positions and almost similar views about the region's crises, which constitute an impetus for coordination between the two countries' parliaments to take common positions in international parliamentary unions and assemblies, according to Awdat.
Discussing the Middle East developments, Awdat said the region's stability and security depends on a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue, which restores the Palestinians legitimate rights on their national soil, foremost of which is the declaration of the establishment of the Palestinian state.
For his part, the Cypriot ambassador said his country "highly" appreciates Jordan's "great" role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to achieve security and stability in the region, pointing to the great Jordanian efforts in assuming the burden of the refugee waves.
The envoy said his country views Jordan as a "major, pivotal" partner in the region, and one of the most important supporters of the region's security and stability, given its voice of moderation and wisdom reflected in the various positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
