(MENAFN) The new COVID-19 strain has affected 17 people in Palestine as of Friday, with local health officials warning against the spread of the improved variant.
The Palestinian medical teams exert hard efforts with all the concerned parties to halt the new strain, reporters in Ramallah quoted Director of medical services in the Palestinian Ministry of Health Osama al-Najjar as saying.
Medical teams are observing the patients' situations and taking samples from their close contacts, Mai al-Kaila, Palestinian health minister, said in a statement to the media on Thursday.
The minister also said, "The new strain of the coronavirus is considered more rapid to spread among the population. Also, it may infect all ages of the people."
In the meantime, al-Kaila declared on Friday that the health ministry logged 12 deaths, 494 additional COVID-19 infections, and 792 recoveries in the Palestinian territories.
